Federal Update
Bills introduced in the House include:
• Healthy School Meals Flexibility Act (H.R. 2508) would set the whole-grain rich standard at 50 percent vs. the current 100 percent standard. It would also set the sodium standard at current levels without ability for further reduction.
• Wise Investment in our Children Act (H.R. 2660) would increase the age limit of children participating in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Programs for WIC one additional year – five to six.
• Salad Bars in Schools Expansion Act (H.R. 2627) would create a five year program to increase the number of salad bars in schools participating in the National School Lunch Program.

USDA Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) is making it easier for children, parents, and community leaders to find local summer meal sites near them. The Summer Meal Site Finder is a free, web-based application that features an easily-searchable map to help locate sites serving summer meals throughout the country.
