 Representative Toby Barker update.

  • Fresh Food Financing
  • How do we put into place incentives to grow healthy foods?
  • Increase development programs to market to underprivileged areas.
  • Get local grocers involved.
  • Expand WIC to EBT cards
  • Expand SNAP benefits throughout the month

 

Emily recognized all the subcommittees:

 Mark recognized the current board members.

  • Rickey has decided to take an ex-officio board member position and give up his current position as the Natural Resource board member.

 Nominations were taken for the Natural Resource Board Member position.

  • Judy nominated Nancy Woodruff with Gaining Ground.  She accepted her nomination.
  • Rhonda nominated Samantha Newman with MS Farm Bureau.  She accepted her nomination.
  • Judy nominated DeMarc Hickson of My Brother’s Keeper.  He declined his nomination because it’s a natural resource position and this was not in his realm of expertise.
  • Mark requested that DeMarc Hickson be added as an ex-officio board member.  He accepted this nomination.
  • Each nominee was asked to state a few sentences on why they would like to fill the new board position.
  • Nominates were closed and a 2nd motion was received.

 Mark read the MS Food Policy Council Potential Advocacy Agenda.  Each item was listed and MFPC members were given colored tabs to vote on each (Red – 1st choice; Green – 2nd choice; Blue – needs more research)

Increasing the Production & sale of local meat & poultry.
